About Escape Bryggen

Step into a world of mystery and excitement – indoors, outdoors, or as a team. Which path will you take?

From Norway's First Escape Room to Today

We are Escape Bryggen, proud owners and developers of the first ever Escape Room in Norway - 'Hanseaticus' (which is still going strong!). In the years since the business has grown and we now have multiple Escape Rooms, outdoor games, and dedicated teambuilding games, every one of which is completely original and unique, made and developed here in Bergen, Norway.

Where Fun Meets Top Reviews

Games are our passion and the number one goal is always happy customers which is why we are number 1 in our Trip Advisor category and enjoy fantastic reviews across the board.

Number One for a Reason

We love the unique history of Bryggen - we have the only Escape Room in the world within a UNESCO world heritage site - and we try to work that history and culture into our games.

Where To Find Us

Our main site is at Bryggen 35 (Bredsgården), in the heart of the historical Bryggen quarter, in the centre of Bergen, Norway. And we are excited to announce that we have a brand new site coming soon, opening at Strandgaten 7!

FAQs

How physically demanding are the rooms?

Very little physical effort is required and every room has some chairs if you want to take the weight off your feet and take a break!

How often do you update the Rooms?

We never stop working to improve our rooms and are constantly making small adjustments to ensure they are as much fun as possible. However the majority of the puzzles stay the same so if you've already played a room we recommend trying one of our other games.

How long do you need to prepare for a teambuilding game?

We generally ask for 3 days notice to prepare a teambuilding game. On site set-up can take up to an hour, depending on the size of the groups.

We are a group of 20+ and would like to book an outdoor game.

Cityhunt games are ideal for bigger groups! Our booking system allows bookings of up to 20 but we can accept far bigger groups if we have a little time to prepare, so please contact us for the arrangements.

What is an Escape Room?

The classic concept is being locked in a room with only 60 minutes to escape by solving exciting puzzles, challenges and mysteries. As the games have evolved many Escape Rooms now do not involve being locked in, instead the goal might be to solve a murder or defeat the villain. NB Our rooms include various safety measures in place to ensure players can rapidly exit the room without assistance.

What locations are available for your teambuilding games?

We bring the games to you! As long as you have space we will do the rest. If your own location is not available we have arrangements in place with Bergen Aquarium and The Hanseatic Hotel.  Also, whilst we are based in Bergen we are very happy to travel - cost and logistics permitting! So please just contact us to discuss.

What should we wear for an outdoor game?

Since it is outdoors, please dress appropriately. Remember that there is no bad weather, only inappropriate clothing. In case the weather turns out to be really unpleasant, you can hide somewhere warm and solve some of the puzzles indoors.

What kinds of games do you offer?

We have Escape Rooms, Outdoor games and dedicated Teambuilding games (though the Escape Rooms and outdoor games are great for teambuilding in their own right!). All our games are 100% unique and made by us here in Bergen.

How far do we have to walk in your outdoor games?

The Great Crime is around 3km. The Lost rune is around 1km. Curse of the Golden Phoenix is around 1.5km. The walking is all on city centre streets - no mountain climbing!

How many people can play an Escape Room?

The Escape Rooms are designed for a maximum group size of 6, however we do allow 7 on request, just so long as all players are aware this might result in a little more 'cozy' game experience than usual. Please contact us at mastermind@escapebryggen.no if you'd like to book for a larger group.

Our outdoor and team building games are designed to be played in teams of 2-5 approx.

Do we share the room with other groups?

No. The only people in your room will be your group.

How physically demanding are the outdoor games?

Not very. There is no set time limit so you can go at your own pace.

What sized groups can your teambuilding games cover?

Our teambuilding games can be from from sizes of 10-100 and with a combination of games we can cater for groups of up to 200+. With a little extra time to prepare we can manage even larger sizes - the biggest group we have had to date is 600 players!

Are your rooms safe?

Yes, very. All our rooms rooms are designed with safety in mind and we have a fantastic safety record. All rooms have emergency exits, and game masters monitor the players throughout the experience. If at any point you feel uncomfortable, you can contact the game master or easily exit the room without assistance.

What languages are the games in?

All our games are available both in English and Norwegian (the 'Hanseaticus' Escape Room requires very little knowledge of any language).

Where do we meet for an outdoor game?

Please meet us at the Escape Room location at Bryggen 35. We might arrange a different meeting spot for larger groups but this will be discussed prior to your game. If you wish to request an alternate meeting spot please contact us.

Do you serve drinks? Can we bring alcohol?

We sell a selection of soft drinks. Alcoholic drinks are not allowed on site and we strongly recommend playing whilst sober. We reserve the right to refuse entry or ask players to leave if they have had too much to drink.

Is there an age limit?

Children under the age of 15 need adult supervision. The puzzles themselves are likely to be too difficult for children under the age of ten. Children under the age of 8 may be present in the room/participate in the game (at no extra charge) so long as an 18+ adult is in the room with them at all times (or accompanying them during outdoor games).

Can we take a break mid outdoor game?

Yes! There is no set time limit so you can go at your own pace, maybe stop for lunch along the way or take a detour for some sight seeing!

Do you serve food? Do you have a meal deal?

We do not offer food on site but have a great deal with Inside Rock Cafe a short walk from Bryggen - 20% off food (plus other discounts) for all Escape Bryggen customers!

Do you accept Ledsagerbevis?

Yes! Both the owner of the ledsagerbevis and the ledsager get 20% off (just select the student/child option when booking).

Do I need to bring anything for an outdoor game?

Other than suitable clothing The Great Crime requires a smartphone with data. The Lost Rune does not require anything else.

What other games have you made?

You can see all our retired games in our "in memoriam" page.

What is your cancellation policy?

We have one of the most generous and flexible policies in the industry! You only pay for those that play on the day (thought please be aware that our teambuildings games have a minimum price of 10 adult players), and you can cancel for any reason and receive a full refund just so long as we have 24 hours notice (unless otherwise specified). If you cancel within 24 hours there is a 100% cancellation fee.

Do I need to download anything?

No - The Great Crime will require access to a website but nothing is required to be downloaded beforehand.

Is there wheelchair access?

Unfortunately, due to the age of the building at Bryggen we do not have the ability to receive customers in wheelchairs. Wheelchair access is possible at Strandgaten 7 but please call to discuss your requirements. Our outdoor games are suitable for wheelchair users but please be aware some streets, especially around Bryggen, may be a little uneven/bumpy.

Will it be scary? Are we locked in?

Our Varg Veum room contains some adult elements but is not scary in any fashion. The other rooms are not intended to be scary. You are always able to leave the room without outside assistance. Not all escape rooms have a “locked door”, in cases where they do there will also be a clearly marked emergency key for use in an emergency situation

Can we pay by invoice?

If you are a registered Norwegian organisation then yes. You can select this option when making a booking (though please be aware there is a small Faktura fee for this). The invoice will be sent shortly after the game is played.

Can we play at a custom time?

If you can not find a time slot that is suitable please contact us and we will do our best to find a solution that fits.

What do I do if a gift card expires before I am able to play?

Our giftcards come with an amazing 5 year expiration date so you shouldn't have to worry about running out of time! If you do run out of time, please send an email and we will see what we can do.
